  • EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The ___ Plan is focused on sustaining Bexley as a thriving community with a roadmap to reducing Bexley’s contribution to climate and other environmental changes; this will serve as a process for minimizing impacts on the environment for generations to come. ____ is broad plan to address environmental sustainability issues such as the climate crisis, pollution, and land degradation, through the lenses of social and economic concerns.

This plan has goals and strategies for all who spend time in Bexley with specific actions to be taken by institutions, businesses, residents, and the city government.

Overall, the primary objectives of this plan are to reduce resource use and increase protections of the natural environment while giving special considerations to be inclusive through justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and opportunities for continued education are woven throughout the document, as they serve as integral pieces to __. Specific goals include:

Reduce net greenhouse gas (GHG) equivalent emissions _____.

Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by 90% by 2040 from 2017 levels

    X

    Y

    Z

How these goals are accomplished matters and it is important to take into account the impacts of Bexleyites as well as the greater central Ohio community. There are opportunities here to follow best practices, lead by example, create a stronger sense of community, encourage economic growth, strengthen resiliency, improve self-sufficiency, and improve the health of ourselves and our community.

Our changing planet has a direct impact on our health, livelihoods, and even where we may choose to live. Given the climate threshold of our planet reaching above 1.5 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels (footnote link to the World Meteorological Organization) in the next five years, which is projected to intensify the ongoing detrimental effects, the City of Bexley is called to act in creative and meaningful ways to adapt to and work to mitigate the climate and other ecological crises.

[paragraph about what we’re already seeing in Bexley]... and also actions we’ve taken like __, __, __.

We think there is something for everyone in this plan, and therefore the plan is organized as such; within each sector (residential, institutional, business, and city operations) lives eleven categories, each with goals and specific strategies–a plan, project, policy, or program to accomplish a goal. These goals were based off of ___ and the strategies were selected based on their impact, expected benefits, feasibility, and timeframe. These comprise both adaptation strategies to help us adapt to our changing climate and mitigation strategies to reduce the projected changes.
